I totally fell in love with Slovenian hospitality, mild climate, super nice people and all this delicious wines. Nothing better than wake up early in the morning to barefoot watch the sunrise over the vineyards. I grow up in a very small village in the central Poland and although I live in big cities for so many years already, my heart is still everywhere, where you can feel close to the nature. And vineyards are definitely my favourite landscape. Getting to know more about wine production, testing different types of wines, meeting wine producers and listening to their stories – I’m never bored with these.

Hlebec is an absolutely outstanding place. So authentic and naturally adapted to the slow. You will not find there anything artificial, posh or commercial. Just pure nature and the most welcoming owners you can imagine. This place has everything what you need if you are looking for a super relaxing weekend, far away from big cities and commercial hotels.

How to get there?

The nearest airports are: Zagreb 1,5 h drive, Ljubljana 2 h drive, Vienna 3,5 h drive, Budapest 3,5 h drive, Munich 6 h drive, Sarajevo 6 h drive or Milan 7 h drive. Public transport is not the best option as Hlebec is located in a very small village.

Wine

Hlebec vineyard is producing wine since 1983 and already three generations of family have contributed to the experience of wine growing and the production of the delicious wines we can enjoy today. This beautiful, traditionally held vineyard is located in Kog, on the outskirts of the beautiful Ljutomer-Ormož hills. The production is up to 40k bottles of wine per year: chardonnay, sauvignon, rhein, lasko riesling, muskat otonel and traditional sipon sorts. All grapes are picked manually and the family duo of Milan Hlebec senior and Milan Hlebec junior will take you on a tasting journey through the world of delicious quality wines in their magnificent wine cellar.

Food

The place has no a regular restaurant with a la carte menu. They offer breakfast and dinner in the half-board option (on your wish they will prepare more meals). Breakfast is served as a buffet with local cheese, ham, eggs, marmalade, butter and home-made bread. The dinner is a ready to serve dish but whether you have a special request for vegetarian or vegan meal it’s also possible as the kitchen chef is a super creative person. We eat meat but during our stay preferred more vegetarian diet and got absolutely delicious fish, local soups and a traditional one pot meal that was a combination of eggs, asparagus and cheese. It was beyond our expectations – all super fresh, tasty and served in a beautiful way! They also have a barbecue and a nice patio where you can have your meals served outside, as we did.

Rooms

There are 7 rooms available with accomodation for up to 17 guests, all cozy decorated with some local art. The rooms are very simple but spacious and equipped with all you may need. The price for the stay is really affordable – for 35 euro per day per person you have the room and HB menu.

What else can you do here?

We stayed there during the Easter weekend and as we were super lucky with the weather did a picnic between grape rows, walked around the village and of course had lots of wine. What else can you do there?

• running – really nice surrounding for runners, with some heels and unattended paths
• biking – good roads with lack of cars, perfect for beginners and pros
• wine tasting – both Milans can walk you thru all the wines they produce. We tried 5 whites, one red and a cognac.
• harvest – during the harvest season what is end of September till mid October you can join the harvest and learn more about the wine production
• sightseeing – you can also visit nearest small villages and towns: Jerusalem, Ljutomer and Ormoz

We are so much in love with Hlebec that we are already planning our next visit there during the harvest season in September. Lets pick up some grapes and see the magic of wine production! Come and join us :)
